Job Description: Financial Empowerment Coach
Department: Financial Counseling
Reports to: Director – Financial Counseling
ESOP’s mission is to foster the economic empowerment of disenfranchised communities through outreach, education and advocacy. Under the direction and in partnership with ESOP’s Director of Financial Counseling, the Financial Empowerment Coach conducts Financial Capabilities Workshops, assesses individuals’ and families’ financial capabilities and provides coaching and counseling for a variety of programs designed to develop economic empowerment and community stabilization.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
- Training: Presents and conducts ESOP’s Financial Capabilities Workshops, including the Senior Financial Education Workshop (SFEW) series
- Financial Capability Coaching: Counsels and coaches individuals and families to help them understand and improve credit, establish a budget, reduce debt and create an action plan that will help achieve, maintain and improve economic stability
- Benefits and Entitlement Assessment: Assesses, evaluates and recommends low-to-moderate income individuals and families to qualified benefits and entitlement programs using “Ohio Benefit Bank” to help ensure economic stability and basic needs
- Outreach: Speaks and presents at community outreach events, seminars, and meetings to promote ESOP programs and services
- Provides regular and timely updates to clients on program requirements and goal progress
- Assists the Director of Financial Counseling on special projects, data reporting and process and program implementation
- Foreclosure Prevention Counseling (occasional and as qualified): Mediates workout options between homeowners and the servicer or lender of the mortgage to help homeowners keep their homes
- Pre-Purchase Counseling (occasional and as qualified): Works in partnership with the Director of Housing Counseling to provide one-on-one counseling to help potential homebuyers meet the requirements necessary for stable and sustainable homeownership
- Maintains all necessary certifications and program training requirements as required by HUD and/or ESOP
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Counseling
- A minimum requirement of three years related case-management experience in financial planning, coaching or counseling
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Education or experience in Personal Finance with an emphasis on household budgeting
- Public speaking required
- Excellent attention to detail, personal organization, and time management
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma and relevant work experience are required
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing with people from all socioeconomic backgrounds
- Must excel at working independently, and as part of a larger, coordinated team effort
- Must have outstanding customer service skills, patience, follow-up and follow through
- Ability to sit/stand for up to two hours at a time
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

Position: GRANT WRITER, FUNDING; Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging
[BRIA]/Empowering and Strengthening Ohio’s People [ESOP]
Reports to: Vice President Institutional Advancement BRIA, and Executive Director ESOP/Vice President BRIA
Contact: Geneva Anderson, VP Human Resource
- Position will research, analyze, identify, and cultivate funding sources and opportunities from federal and state agencies, private foundations and public corporations to help fiscally execute the organization’s mission.
- This position will spend a majority of time focused on grant writing and related support for ESOP (80%) funding needs and provide grant writing and related support as needed for BRIA (20%).
- Writes and submits grant proposals and grant reports on behalf of ESOP and BRIA, and as requested and required by funders.
- Works with ESOP program managers and finance manager, and as appropriate, with specified BRIA staff, on all aspects of proposal preparation, including budget development, supporting project narrative and final grant reporting.
- Prepares and presents reports on ESOP grant activity.
- Maintains and tracks all standard and required documentation for grant proposals and submissions.
- Maintains accurate, timely and regular communications with ESOP and BRIA funders, donors, and prospects in coordination with management.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Excellence in writing, editing and communication skills.
- Minimum 5-7 years professional work experience in non-profit or comparable professional work
- Minimum 3-5 years demonstrated successful grant writing experience.
- Experience writing successful HUD/HHS RFQ’s/RFP’s a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with project management, including strong organizational and time
- Must be able to translate technical information and data for stories and cases for support.
- Proficient in MS Office software and online grants portal access.
