Thank you to everyone who came out to help us celebrate ESOP's 20th Anniversary. The luncheon was a great success!
As a result of the government shutdown Senator Sherrod Brown was unable to attend. Jim Rokakis delivered the keynote speech describing the impact of the foreclosure crisis in Northeast Ohio and how local agencies like ESOP can work together on the housing and economic issues impacting our communities.
Earlier this year ESOP’s founder Inez Killingsworth passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was an inspiring leader with a commitment to community and an example that everyday people can make an extraordinary and lasting impact. Inez's daughter Wanda Killingsworth delivered a personal tribute.
In honor of her memory ESOP has established the Inez Tillman Killingsworth Community Leadership Award. The inaugural recipient isThird Federal Savings & Loan. Under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Marc Stefanski, Third Federal Savings & Loan has demonstrated a commitment to Ohio homeowners, offering fair products, investing in communities and maintaining its corporate headquarters in the Slavic Village neighborhood where it was founded since 1938.
This year’s Above & Beyond award was given to the Center for Community Planning and Development at Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs for its commitment to researching and documenting the work being done to help stem the tide of foreclosures in Cuyahoga County.
We debuted the expansion of our mission - to foster the economic empowerment of disenfranchised communities through outreach, education and advocacy. We will continue to offer foreclosure prevention counseling and other types of financial counseling throughout Ohio. We’re also thrilled to announce a whole new program area focusing on the financial empowerment of the growing senior population in Cuyahoga County.
We look forward to working with our friends and partners on this new program and finding new ways to Build Partnerships for Economic Opportunity.
Thank you to everyone who came out to help ESOP celebrate its 20th anniversary. It was a huge success!
